'Have you played on each of these surfaces?' Iga Swiatek shuts down a reporter for dragging her records on other surfaces after win in Rome

Polish tennis Iga Swiatek is not someone who loses her temper too often. However, she did not like it when a reporter tried to drag her records on other surfaces after her recent title win in Rome. As Swiatek has far better records in clay-court tournaments as compared to grass-court and hard-court tournaments, the reporter reminded her of this in Saturday’s post-game presser.

The reporter asked the reason behind her not being able to dominate on surfaces other than clay, while claiming that all three surfaces play the same. This left Swiatek perplexed as she cross-questioned if the reporter had played on each of the three surfaces to make such a claim.

You think the surfaces are the same? Have you played on each of these surfaces? Iga Swiatek asked the reporter

She ended the chat with a plain “Thanks” when the reporter said that they said that they feel that she should win on other surfaces as frequently as she wins on clay. While this chat ended, someone else also asked about the difference in the level of performance for Swiatek across different surfaces. The Polish simply explained that they are different.

Because they are different. Because the surfaces are different. Iga Swiatek said in the post-match press conference.

A look at Iga Swiatek’s record across different surfaces

As the debate about Iga Swiatek‘s not-so-good record on surfaces other than clay resurfaces, it is important to have a look at them. Diving straight into the details, the Polish ace certainly enjoys playing on clay and her three French Open titles conform to this perception.

Apart from that, Swiatek has a win percentage of approximately 87% on clay. Meanwhile, her win percentage on hard and grass stands at 79 and 71, respectively. Speaking of the Grand Slam tournaments played on surfaces other than clay, Swiatek has won one of US Open title in five attempts.

At the Australian Open, the best Swiatek has managed is a semifinal qualification which came in 2022. On grass, the World No. 1 women’s tennis player has managed a solitary quarterfinal qualification in four editions played. She managed to better her record at the Wimbledon only last year when she made it to the last eight.
